The celA gene, encoding a glycosyl hydrolase family 3 beta-glucosidase in Azospirillum irakense, is required for optimal growth on cellobiosides

Article Abstract:

Azospirillum irakense has a CelA beta-glucosidase that belongs to the glycosyl hydrolase family 3 (GHF3). It appears to function as an alternative to the beta-glucosidases in many other bacteria, which belong to the glycosyl hydrolase family 1.

Cloning and expression in Saccharomyces cerevisiae of a Trichoderma reesei beta-mannanase gene containing a cellulose binding domain

Article Abstract:

Experimental studies using antiserum raised towards beta-mannanase protein help isolate a beta-mannanase gene, man1, of the filamentous fungus Trichoderma reesei from an expression library. Use of the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae as the host helps express and secrete active beta-mannanase. Two beta-mannanases with the isoelectric points 4.6 and 5.4 are encoded by the man1 gene.

Comparative study of substrates and inhibitors of Azospirillum lipoferum and Pyricularia oryzae laccases

Article Abstract:

A comparative study of Azospirillum lipoferum and Pyricularia oryzae laccases reveals that both bacterial and fungal laccases use sixteen phenolic or nonphenolic compounds as substrates. Different phenol oxidase inhibitors show similar behavior toward both P. oryzae and A. lipoferum laccase activities.
