This article reviews bone biology from organogenesis to recent research advances and encompasses human and mouse genetic studies on the bone degenerative disease osteoporosis. Differentiation, function and regulation of osteoclast and osteoblast, genetic analysis of skeletal function, and bone mineralization are discussed.

The bHLH regulator pMesogenin1 is required for maturation and segmentation of paraxial mesoderm

Article Abstract:

Research reveals that pMesogenin1 gene alteration causes severe disruption in the segmentation and maturation of the trunk paraxial mesoderm suggesting to its role in the maturation process of the mesoderm. Data indicate that the axial and lateral mesoderm development is not affected.

Key events of pancreas formation are triggered in gut endoderm by ectopic expression of pancreatic regulatory genes

Article Abstract:

Results demonstrate that ngn3 gene is an initiator of endocrine differentiation including pancreas and is transiently expressed in pancreatic cells. Data show that the gene turns on the epithelial cells of the antero-posterior axis of the gut into endocrine cells.
