The glococorticoid receptor inhibits NF-kappa-B by interfering with serine-2 phosphorylation of the RNA polymerase II carboxy-terminal domain

Article Abstract:

The glococorticoid receptor (GR) has been found to disrupt serine-2 phosphorylation of the RNA polymerase II carboxy-terminal domain and thereby to inhibit NF-kappa-B. It has been shown that the GR zinc binding region (ZBR), which includes the DNA binding and dimerization functions of the receptor, directly binds to the dimerization domain of the RelA subunit of NF-kappa-B in vitro. The ZBR is adequate to associate with RelA bound at NF-kappa-B response elements in vivo. Surprisingly, the GR did not inhibit preinitiation complex (PIC) assembly under repressing conditions.

The alpha subunit of E. coli RNA polymerase activates RNA binding by NusA

Article Abstract:

The alpha subunit of Escherichia coli RNA polymerase has been found to activate NusA RNA binding. The lambda N protein binds to the carboxy-terminal regions of NusA, as does the alpha subunit of E. coli RNA polymerase. Deletion of the 79 carboxy-terminal amino acids of the NusA protein makes it possible for the protein to bind RNA in gel mobility shift assays. NusA is a 495-amino acid protein. Helix-hairpin-helix (HhH) motifs seen in the alpha-carboxy-terminal domain (CTD) are perhaps mediators of protein-protein interaction in NusA and the alpha-CTD. The motif is conserved in the DT regions of some eubacterial NusA proteins.

Cell- and gene-specific regulation of primary target genes by the androgen receptor

Article Abstract:

RNA expression profiling is used to identify androgen receptors (ARGs) and chromatin immunoprecipitation together with microarray analysis to define a subset of primary ARGs. New insights into cell- and gene-specific mechanisms of transcriptional regulation of androgen-responsive networks are put forth.
