The importance of dendritic mitochondria in the morphogenesis and plasticity of spines and synapses

Article Abstract:

The study presented points to a high level of dynamism in dendritic mitochondrial distribution, which is regulated by synaptic activity and correlated with synapse morphogenesis. The kinetic behavior of dentritic mitochondria is in accord with the dynamics of the post-synaptic compartment, in which the turnover of postsynaptic proteins and the mutability of dentritic spines are also controlled by activity.

Subunit-specific rules governing AMPA receptor trafficking to synapses in hippocampal pyramidal neurons

Article Abstract:

Research examines the molecular determinants of AMPA-type glutamate receptors mediating their synaptic delivery. Data show that two synaptic delivery systems exist, one participating in plasticity and the other substituting for the existing synaptic receptors, depending on the carboxy terminii of the subunits.

AMPA receptor trafficking and the control of synaptic transmission

Article Abstract:

The level of AMPA receptors in synapses is governed by synaptic transmission, which varies between different synapses. Results indicate that the AMPA-type glutamate receptor is a ligand-gated cation channel, which opens upon glutamate binding.
