The mechanism of recA polA lethality: suppression by RecA-independent recombination repair activated by the lexA(Def) mutation in Escherichia coli

Article Abstract:

The study of the recA polA lethality (mechanism) in Escherichia coli reveals that the 5' to 3' exonuclease and the DNA polymerase I are required for the viability when the Rec A protein is absent. The study also reveals that the DNA replication and the viability of the DNA-I polymerase I-defective cells are influenced by the recombinase activity of Rec A. The defects in the DNA replication are eliminated by the presence of the Recf-dependent recombination repair pathway.

A space-time process model for the evolution of DNA sequences

Article Abstract:

The newly developed model for the evolution of DNA sequences by substitution of nucleotides reveals that a large variation of rates exists among the nucleotide sites in the sequence. The model assumes that the nucleotide sites evolve over a period of time and that the substitution rates are related to the sites. The substitution rates at sites adjacent to each other are influenced by the rates at the nearby sites.

Evolution of ribosomal DNA (rDNA) genetic structure in colonial Californian populations of Avena barbata

Article Abstract:

An analysis of DNA samples from the plants of Avena barbata species growing in 48 ecologically different terrains reveals that there are 40 different types of rDNA genotypes. These genotypes enable the plant to survive in different hostile regions. Each genotype is found in particular environment only.
