The protein import motor of mitochondria: unfolding and trapping of preproteins are distinct and separable functions of matrix Hsp70

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to examine the physiological function of mitochondrial heat shock protein 70 (mtHsp70). By physically trapping preproteins, it was revealed that mtHsp70 is responsible for unfolding, translocating and folding of imported proteins. It was also observed that mtHsp70's adenosine triphosphate-dependent interaction with Tim44 triggers its active motor function in protein import.

Energetics of protein transport across biological membranes: a study of the thylakoid (Delta)pH-dependent/cpTat pathway

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on thylakoid (Delta)pH-dependent/cpTat transport pathways. The free energy cost of protein translocation across membranes has been determined via the use of these pathways as a model, and the details are reported.

Molecular chaperones Hsp90 and Hsp70 deliver preproteins to the mitochondrial import receptor Tom70

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on cytosolic chaperones Hsp90 and Hsp70. Results demonstrate that these chaperones dock into tetratricopeptide repeat domain in Tom70 import receptor at the outer mitochondrial membrane.
