Thio wax ester biosynthesis utilizing the unspecific bifunctional wax ester synthase/acyl coenzyme A: Diacylglycerol acyltransferase of Acinetobacter sp. strain ADP1

Article Abstract:

The bifunctional wax ester synthase/acyl coenzyme A: diacylglycerol acyltransferase (WS/DGAT) from Acinetobacter sp. strainADP1 mediating the biosynthesis of wax esters and triacylglycerols was used for the in vivo and in vitro biosynthesis of thio wax esters and dithio wax esters. It was found that the range of possible acyl acceptors for WS/DGAT is extended to alkanethiol, enabling the in vitro and also in vivo biosynthesis of unusual thio wax esters or dithio wax esters, respectively.

Eukaryotic lipid body proteins in oleogenous actinomycetes and their targeting to intracellular triacylglycerol inclusions: Impact on models of lipid body biogenesis

Article Abstract:

Heterologous expression of eukaryotic lipid body protein in prokaryotes accumulating triacylglycerols (TAGs) and their properties of binding to bacterial TAG inclusions were reported. It was established that the formation of bacterial lipid inclusions and targeting of eukaryotic lipid body proteins to lipid inclusions were a suitable tool to reveal their underlying mechanisms.

Engineered cyanophycin synthetase (CphA) from Nostoc ellipsosporum confers enhanced CphA activity and cyanophycin accumulation to Escherichia coli

Article Abstract:

The cyanophycin (CGP) synthetase gene (cph[A.sub.NE1]) of the transposon-induced argL mutant NE1 of the cyanobacterium Nostoc ellipsosporum is cloned and expressed in Escherichia coli strain TOP10. The results have shown that CphA from Nostoc ellipsosporum NE1 has much higher substrate specificity than other cyanobacterial CphAs.
