Translation by ribosome shunting on adenovirus and hsp70 mRNAs facilitated by complementarity to 18S rRNA

Article Abstract:

Ribosome shunting on adenovirus and hsp70 mRNAs is discussed. Translation by this means is facilitated by 18S rRNA complementarity. A study has shown that the 5' noncoding region of human adenovirus late mRNAs, known as the tripartite leader is a factor. It seems ribosome shunting may involve specific RNA structural features or a prokaryotic-like interaction between mRNA and rRNA.

Tethering of eIF4G to adenoviral mRNAs by viral 100k protein drives ribosome shunting

Article Abstract:

A molecular mechanism for ribosome shunting is described. Mutational and biochemical studies show that the ability of 100k protein to bind tripartite leader and eIF4G are critical to promote a high level of ribosome shunting.

Endotoxic shock in AUF1 knockout mice mediated by failure to degrade proinflammatory cytokine mRNAs

Article Abstract:

An AUF1 knockout mouse is developed to understand the function of the AU-rich element (ARE)-binding protein AUF1. The results have provided the first in vivo evidence implicating AUF1 in regulation of the inflammatory response and they have provided a molecular understanding of AUF1 action in selective targeted degradation of inflammatory cytokine mRNAs.
