Wnt signaling maintains the hair-inducing activity of the dermal papilla

Article Abstract:

Wnt signaling, which maintains the hair-inducing activity of the dermal papilla, is discussed in this research communication. GFP specifically expressed in dermal papilla (DP) cells of a transgenic mouse has been used to purify the cells and to study signals necessary to maintain them. Specific Wnts, but not Sonic hedgehog (Shh), maintain anagen-phase gene expression in vitro and hair-inductive events in a skin reconstitution assay.

Unipolar membrane association of Dishevelled mediates Frizzled planar cell polarity signaling

Article Abstract:

Unipolar membrane association of Dishevelled has been found to mediate Frizzled planar cell polarity (PCP) signaling and is discussed in this research communication article. The unipolar relocalization of Dsh to the membrane is necessary for mediation of PCP, but not Wingless, signaling. Drosophila epithelia acquire a PCP orthogonal to their apical-basal axes.

Axis determination by inhibition of Wnt signaling in Xenopus

Article Abstract:

Axis determination in Xenopus is discussed. The process is achieved by Wnt signaling according to a study of the role of Wnt ligands in vertebrate axis determination for which interference was set up for Wnt signaling in the embryo using the extracellular domain of Xenopus Frizzled 8 (ECD8). ECD8 blocks Wnt-dependent activation of a target gene in Xenopus ectodermal explants.
