WEREWOLF, a MYB-related protein in Arabidopsis, is a position-dependent regulator of epidermal cell patterning

Article Abstract:

A novel gene, WEREWOLF (WER), a MYB-related protein in Arabidopsis, is discussed. It is a position-dependent regulator of epidermal cell patterning. Study results suggest a simple model which would explain specification of the two root epidermal cell types and give insight into molecular mechanisms that control cell patterning.

Opposing effects of Ras on p53: transcriptional activation of mdm2 and induction of p19(sup)ARF

Article Abstract:

Regulation of p53 tumor suppressor gene is discussed in the contexts of the Mdm2 and Ras genes which show opposing effects on p53. Research reveals that the Ras-driven Raf/MEK/MAP kinase pathway suppresses p53 during tumor development through Raf's activation of the Mdm2's inhibitor p19(sup)ARF.

Arabidopsis MAP kinase 4 negatively regulates systemic acquired resistance

Article Abstract:

Research reveals that plant disease resistance is mediated by MAP kinase 4 (MPK4) activity and its inactivation by transposons result in the development of systemic acquired resistance, elevated salicylic acid levels, and resistance to virulent pathogens.
