Identification of novel small RNAs using comparative genomics and microarrays

Article Abstract:

Novel small RNAs (sRNAs) and their identification using comparative genomics and microarrays are discussed. High conservation of sRNAs among closely related bacterial species were used to predict presence of novel sRNA genes in the intergenic regions of the Esherichia coli genome. Analysis of transcripts detected by high-density oligonucleotide probe arrays was also used.

casanova encodes a novel Sox-related protein necessary and sufficient for early endoderm formation in zebrafish

Article Abstract:

Cas has been shown to be the main transcriptional effector of Nodal signaling during zebrafish endoderm formation. Zebrafish casanova was found to encode a novel Sox-related protein necessary/sufficient for early endoderm formation. Initial cas expression is independent of Nodal signaling. Endoderm formation is more specifically affected by faust, casanova, and bonnie and clyde.

Modulating the outer membrane with small RNAs

Article Abstract:

MicF, one of the first chromosomally encoded regulatory small RNAs (sRNAs) to be discovered, was found to modulate the expression of OmpF, an abundant outer membrane protein. At least five other sRNAs also regulate the synthesis of outer membrane purins, and additional sRNAs modulate the expression of other outer membrane proteins.
