Identification and functional characterization of CbaR, a MarR-like modulator of the cbaABC-encoded chlorobenzoate catabolism pathway

Article Abstract:

A MarR family repressor called CbaR in Comamonas testosteroni can modulate the induction of cbaABC, which codes for enzymes that degrade 3-chlorobenzoate. An unidentified regulator of this gene has also been found.

The locus coding for the 3-nitrobenzonate dioxygenase of Comamonas sp. strain JS46 is flanked by IS1071 elements and is subject to deletion and inversion events

Article Abstract:

The locus coding for the 3Nba dioxygenase is mobilized from strain JS46 using a plasmid capture method, cloned, and sequenced. In ~0.007 to 0.2% of any population of JS46 cell growing on 3Nba alternative orientations of m-nitrobenzoate relative to the flanking, IS1071 elements are detected.

Structures of homologous composite transposons carrying cbaABC genes from Europe and North America

Article Abstract:

The structure and environmental distribution of Tn5271-like elements in bacteria strains found in the Niagara River watershed and elsewhere are described. Transposons formed from homologous components of the insertion element IS1071 and the operon cbaABC were observed on Tn5271 of strains in Niagara Falls, NY, and on pCPE3 of strains in Bologna, Italy. Differences in the junction sequences between the internal DNA and the IS1071L and IS1071R elements indicate that the transposons were formed independent of each other on the two plasmids.
