p.Q223R leptin receptor polymorphism associated with obesity in Brazilian multiethnic subjects

Article Abstract:

The possible association between the leptin receptor (LEPR) p.Q223R gene polymorphism and its role in the obese phenotype in selected obese subjects from a Brazilian multiethnic population is tested, and the results compared with those obtained from a sample of lean or normal healthy subjects. A significant difference is observed in LEPR p.Q223R polymorphism frequency in obese and lean subjects, leading to the conclusion that obesity in Brazil is strongly associated with it.
