A Variety of Competitors Turn in Winning Performances

Article Abstract:

An extremely varied group of funds proved to be successful in the fourth quarter of 1983. Riskier growth stocks dominate the winners list for 1983, but the Strong Investment Fund is in the top five and that is one of the most conservatively managed funds. Strong switched into sixty percent cash in June of 1983. Several managers of winning funds are interviewed and plot their investment strategies for 1984. International Investors has been at the top of the list for several years. Their manager believes gold will increase in value in 1984.

Royalty Trust or Bust?

Article Abstract:

Gulf Oil Corp. may be putting fifty per cent of its United States gas and oil reserves into a royalty trust. This suggestion was developed by T. Boone Pickens. Many believe he will soon make a tender offer for Gulf stock. The immediate point of setting up a royalty trust is to avoid double taxation. After the royalty trust is spun off, individual shareholders will benefit.
