Australian accountants are generally cautious about consolidators, with many regarding them as structurally unviable or as a way for promoters to make money quickly. Investment Taxation Specialists, which has purchased 10 firms in New South Wales, Australia, since 2001, aims for annual fees of A$20 million by late 2002. It believes that its corporate structure brings significant benefits.

The company has a buy-sell deal with its partners to better supervise their productivity every week. The company also requires its partners to report a maximum of 5% write-offs and 65% chargeable hours to meet productivity budget requirements.

Deloitte fees soar 27%(Deloitte Australia)

Deloitte Australia maintains a large share of the accounting market in Australia, in spite of rising fees. The firm plans to add legal services in addition to its present offerings including tax work, consulting, insurance and technology. Deloitte may accomplish this by mergers with legal firms, although conflict of interest regulations must be observed.
