First the fall, then the bounce: Wall Street is resilient, and the Australian market has reason for optimism

Article Abstract:

It is likely that world stock markets will rise once Wall Street has recovered from the shock of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Centre and the Pentagon. However, the period until the end of 2002 will be characterized by great uncertainty.

That was then, this is now - but markets are still markets

Article Abstract:

Market indicators do not point to another 1987-style stock market crash for Australia. The Australian stock market is not as stretched as it was in 1987, and its fundamentals and are stronger today. A big correction is possible, but it should not be any worse than whatever happens on Wall Street. Quality stocks and blue chip stocks are a good hedge against any correction.

A golden dawn beckons Australian shares: tax changes and better commodity prices might help the local market outperform Wall Street next year

Article Abstract:

Australian stocks could outperform US stocks in 2000. The major factor that could boost Australian stocks is strong commodity prices. A continued strong commodities market coupled with increased Japanese industrial production could make Australian stocks fashionable. An overview of the Australian securities market is presented, and the outlook for Australian stocks is discussed.
