Winter in America, cool in Australia: as the U.S. economic outlook worsens, Australia, with a bit of luck, seems well placed to keep growing

Article Abstract:

The prospects for the world economy and for Australia's economic situation in 2002 are considered. ANZ Banking Group Chief Economist Saul Eslake believes that the Australian economy will expand by 1.9% in 2001 and 3.2% in 2002. The low Australian dollar has assisted the economy, with exports being more competitive.
