Ingrid Croce, the wife of the late songwriter Jim Croce, opened a small restaurant and catering business in the early 1980s. Blinchiki International Inc has grown into a restaurant and entertainment empire that employs 100 workers and 100 free-lance musicians. Revenues fall between $3 million and $4 million.

How each of four companies that faced disaster overcame and went on to success is described. Michael Cunningham of Cunningham Graphics let go of some equity and some of his authority to save his company during a time of recession. The strategies which helped three other companies are described.

Dominick Pulieri owner of Grotto Pizza Inc. has been making pizza since he was a teenager. Pulieri's business has grown to a chain of 15 restaurants on the East Coast and makes $25 million in annual sales.
