Re-exploring the relationship between flexibility and the external environment

Article Abstract:

The study conducted, to find the relationship between environmental uncertainty, manufacturing flexibility and firm performance, did not yield any result. The results, suggest that the field of operations management, needs to re-explore the theoretical relationship between uncertainty and flexibility.

A multiple-method study of environmental uncertainty and manufacturing flexibility

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze the connection between environmental uncertainty and operational flexibility among North American manufacturers. Two data collection efforts were carried out to perform the analysis. Results indicated no relationship between measures of environmental uncertainty and operational flexibility. In addition, there was no association between a company's performance and its efforts to align the level of operational flexibility with external environment.
