A review and analysis of power dynamics in organizational romances

Article Abstract:

Interpersonal relationships and romances in an organizational environment are analyzed, and the risks relative to career, self-esteem and image are assessed. Risks in general are greater for the female participating in work-related romances than for the male. Reasons for making such relationships public are examined as are indications of such relationships prior to their being made public. One research study indicates that 78 percent of work-related romances are known prior to publicity because the couple is seen together outside the workplace, whereas 47 percent of such couples take longer lunch breaks together, 42 percent involve themselves in intense private discussions at work, and 58 percent spend excessive amounts of time conversing with one another. Among the work-related consequences of such relationships is the creation of instability within the work group as a whole.

The internal morality of contracting: Advancing the contractualist endeavor in business ethics

Article Abstract:

Studies reveal that integrative social contracts theory is arguably the most promising theory of business ethics to date, but often criticized for its inability to produce substantive, action-guiding norms. The substantive norms for guiding and constraining business conduct that can be produced without relying on premises from outside the contractualist framework are presented.
