A taxonomy of couples based on influence strategies: the case of home purchase

Article Abstract:

A taxonomy of husband-wife dyads based on the pair's influence strategy mix used in dealing with preference differences in a home purchase situation is developed. Couples are grouped into one of four categories: compromising couples, wife-oriented couples, dogmatic couples and light influencing couples. Analysis indicates that the type of influence approach employed is determined by couples' demographic characteristics and sex-role attitudes, and affect the sharing of influence on the decision outcome.
