Accounting educators seek help from business sponsors

Article Abstract:

Large classes and a lack of business funding for quality university accounting staff in research and teaching lead to low teacher morale, sub-standard teaching methods, and lower-level students. Lecture halls often accommodate up to 500 students, requiring teaching methods such as multiple choice at the expense of communications skills and face-to-face interaction. Faculty raises are now about 1-2% However, some universities are fighting the lack of funding with year-round teaching and more emphasis on broader business skills and consultant roles.
