Aetna launches E-pay to speed claims payment

Article Abstract:

Aetna Inc. is beginning a new program that will make claims payments to doctors more faster and efficient. Aetna's Healthcare unit in the US is guaranteeing that doctors who file electronic claims will be receive payment within 15 business days under the program. The program will also allow Aetna to automate the authorization of referrals. This will mean the end of a paper system which has caused problems for doctors.

Oxford CEO details at annual meeting plan to nurse the HMO back to health

Article Abstract:

Oxford Health Plans Inc.'s new CEO, Norman C. Payson, talked at the company's 1998 annual-meeting speech about its turnaround strategy. Oxford has been a company plagued with numerous problems. At the meeting, Dr. Payson's message was that no one could predict the future. In 1997, Oxford shares had a value in the mid-70's. By August 1998, the company's shares had a value of $6 per share.

GE unit to acquire Marquette Medical

Article Abstract:

Marquette Medical Systems Inc. has been sold to General Electric's , GE Medical Systems unit in a stock swap valued at about $824 million or $45 dollars a share. The deal will help GE move into the electrocardiograph machines and neonatal patient monitoring machines market.
