An evaluation of routing and volume-based storage policies in an order picking operation

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to evaluate various routing and volume storage-based storage policies in an order picking operation. Full factorial mixed-model ANOVA using SPSS for Windows was utilized to analyze the results of the experiment. Findings established that the statistical differences in the mean route distance for the storage policies, routing policies, and their interactions are substantial. Increased picking efficiency can also be achieved when certain routing and storage policies are combined.
