Are individual differences germane to the acceptance of new information technologies?

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to examine the relationship between individual differences and information technology acceptance using the technology acceptance model (TAM) as a theoretical model. Two-hundred-thirty users of an information technology innovation tested TAM in an empirical study. Findings established that empirical support for the basic structure of a technology acceptance model exists, including the mediating role of beliefs. Several individual difference variables were also found to have substantial effects on TAM's beliefs.

Media appropriateness: effects of experience on communication media choice

Article Abstract:

The use of various communication media on information technologies was found to be a function of user familiarity and exposure to the media, with the increase in use of a particular medium by a user decreasing the use of other media. This finding is particularly useful for information technology developers who can incorporate a number of communication media in their products to provide users with effective communications media which will facilitate the information technology's use.
