Benefit costs hit a record high

Article Abstract:

A survey of 854 businesses employing 2.4 million workers revealed that the cost of employee benefits reached a record average of 42% of payroll in 1995, averaging $14,659 per full-time worker. While medical insurance costs were down, severance pay, pension plans and other costs were up.

Benefit costs shift into reverse

Article Abstract:

The US Chamber of Commerce's employee benefits report reveals that the average cost of benefits fell by just under 1% to $14,678 in 1994. Health insurance, traditionally one of the fastest-rising cost areas, fell by roughly 9% to $2,579/employee in 1994.
