Main aspects regarding staff retention and the need to protect profitability, of big accountancy firms are analyzed. It is observed that even though many people are capable to meet demands on professional from clients and the government only labor market is stretched tightly. Organizations become more dashing by making people work more.

The importance of reputation of accountancy firms is discussed with reference to the dispute between James Hardie Industries and the actuarial firm Trowbridge. Loss of reputation could mean doom to the accountancy firm like it did in the case of Arthur Andersen after the Enron scandal.
