Business out of step on maternity leave

Article Abstract:

The proposal for a government-funded maternity leave scheme has many advantages for small businesses in Australia, costs less than some government departments return each year in unspent funds, and levels the playing field between big and small business. At a net cost to taxpayers of $213 million a year, the paid maternity leave proposal is a relatively modest measure because it is paid at the rate of the minimum weekly wage for 14 weeks.
