Tribes who won't see the forest for the sleaze

Article Abstract:

The Brazilian government is making considerable efforts to eliminate illegal logging, which is making a significant contribution to deforestation rates in the Amazon rainforest. However, this work is being hampered, rather than assisted, by the Ibama, the country's environment police. This force is seriously underfunded, and many of its employees are tempted to accepted bribes from logging companies. Those Ibama employees who try to do their job properly cannot do so because of insufficient resources.
