Changing values in corporate governance

Article Abstract:

It is becoming more common for boards of directors to receive training, some to Diploma level. Often boards of directors who have been trained will be able to pay less for their liability insurance and have fewer claims. There is growing concern over the expertise of boards of directors, with some facing a direct challenge from small shareholders and institutional investors. Institutional fund managers are becoming more demanding and desire a voice on the board. Politicians reflect public concern particularly when company directors have abused their position.

The seeing and thinking organisation ... getting started

Article Abstract:

There are a number of basic, practical ways in which companies can focus on the future effectively and without interruption to existing activities. The WORKBOOK system devised by the RSA as part of its work on Tomorrow's Company, for example, allows people to think in whole 'conscious organisation' terms. Those who have become involved with this system have seen a number of practical benefits, including reassessing which trade publications their company receives and which trade and professional meetings their employees attend.

Out of the box - into the future!

Article Abstract:

Scenario planning can play a valuable role in helping organizations consider possible future developments. The key elements in scenario planning are clearly identifying the issues to be addressed and the timeframe involved, usually 15 to 25 years. Consideration must be given to factors that could influence the future development of the issue or business sector concerned. Attention must also be given to how scenarios integrate with the organization's strategic vision.
