Chicken specialist decides against putting all his eggs in one basket

Article Abstract:

Lenard's, in Australia, has moved to expand its customer base by offering more than just poultry at its retail stores. Lenard's, a chicken retail, is adding lamb and beef products, and has taken steps to inform its customers of the change. The firm first dropped the word 'poultry' from its name so that its customers do not become confused when it offers both meat and poultry. Pork products will be introduced in 1999.

Pure Creative, an ad agency fostered by Mars Confectionery, has grown from $9 million and two clients in early 1997 to $95 million and a host of well known clients, including Procter and Gamble and Gateway 2000, at the end of 1997. Pure Creative bought out one of Australia's long-standing agencies, DMB&B/Weekes Morris Osborn, which had suffered losses and was losing clients.

Product parity, hyper-competition, and wise customers have made life very tough for marketers and it is suggested that companies need to add another P in marketing strategy.
