China sentences, expels Chinese-American activist

Article Abstract:

Harry Wu was arrested in China after he was caught secretly videotaping human rights violations in Chinese labor camps, and sentenced to 15 years in jail. In lieu of serving the sentence, he was expelled from China. The incident caused strained US-China relations.

China expels two U.S. officers for spying

Article Abstract:

Col Chan and Capt Florenzie, who both worked for the US consulate in Hong Kong, were expelled from China on Aug 3, 1995, after they were arrested on spying charges in Xiamen, Fujian. The incident caused relations between the US and China to worsen.

U.N. General Assembly expels Yugoslavia

Article Abstract:

The UN General Assembly, by a vote of 127 to six on Sep 22, 1992, resolved to expel Yugoslavia from the UN for its involvement in the war in Bosnia-Herzegovina. This was the first time a member of the UN had been expelled.
