Cold comfort in tax changes

Article Abstract:

The federal minimum-wage law contains tax breaks intended to soften the financial impact of higher wages on small companies. But observers believe that the benefits of the tax changes are modest. S corporations, independent contractors, and other affected areas are discussed.

Why the IRS eyes executive pay

Article Abstract:

Three businesses won cases against the IRS over the issue of executive pay and its intrinsic value to the business. The IRS believed the companies paid unreasonable salaries to executives and wanted additional corporate taxes paid on the portions deemed unreasonable.

Getting wired for the IRS

Article Abstract:

The IRS is requiring businesses that paid more than $50,000 in employment taxes in 1995 to file their federal payments electronically for 1996. The mandate penalizes heavily for noncompliance and has infuriated small business leaders.
