Iraq discloses nuclear, germ weapons data to U.N.

Article Abstract:

Iraq admitted in a series of meetings held Aug 17-20, 1995, with UN envoy Rolf Ekeus that it had produced biological weapons and had begun development on nuclear weapons prior to invasion of Kuwaiti in 1991. The disclosures were prompted by the defection to Jordan of Hussein Kamel Hassan al-Majid.

Iraq: defectors slain after returning home

Article Abstract:

Two sons-in-law of Saddam Hussein were given government pardons in Feb 1996 after defecting to Jordan in Aug 1995, and returned to Iraq. On Feb 23, 1996, Hussein Kamel Hassan al-Majid and Saddam Kamel Hassn al-Majid were killed by extended family members because of the disgrace they caused.

Lt Gen Hussein Kamel Hassan al-Majid and Lt Col Saddam Kamel Hassan al Majid, their wives and several other top military officers defected from Iraq to Jordan on Aug 8, 1995. Their defections were seen as a sign that Pres Saddam Hussein's rule is weakening.
