U.N. plot transcripts feature sheik

Government transcripts show that Abdel Rahman and a government informer discussed plans to bomb facilities such as the UN headquarters and the FBI's office in New York, NY. Eleven suspects connected to the plot have been arrested. Abdel Rahman was not granted political asylum.

The prosecution finished presenting evidence in the trial of 11 Muslim men who are charged with plotting to bomb the United Nations building in New York, NY. Government informer Emad Salem was one of the star witnesses. Sheik Omar Abdel Rahman allegedly masterminded the plot.

U.N. bomb plot trial: defense rests, jury deliberations begins

A New York, NY, jury began deliberations Sep 23, 1995, on charges that Sheik Omar Abdel Rahman and nine other Muslim defendants participated in a failed plan to bomb the UN building and other sites. The defense argued that the case was politically-motivated entrapment.
