Article Abstract:

Xstrata and other hungry giants of the mineral resources industry are on a lookout for smaller companies that have decent level of production. This makes companies like Alumina, Zinifex, Oxiana and Minara Resources ideal takeover targets because of their share prices and operations. Xstrata's failed takeover bid for WMC resources is also discussed.

WMC: the end?

The mining industry has seen a number of takeovers in the years leading up to 2001 and Australia's third largest house WMC may be next in line. WMC has seen its business improve since 2000, which makes it a target for acquisition.

Iron ore still hot
