Comparing the effects of cellular and functional manufacturing on employees' perceptions and attitudes

Article Abstract:

The effect of adopting cellular manufacturing (CM) practices on employee perceptions and attitudes in two midwestern clothing companies was examined. CM refers to the application of group technology philosophy to production to obtain the advantages offered by mass production without creating batch environments. Results revealed that the direct effects of CM on attitudes were positive, while its indirect effects were negative, particularly with respect to job satisfaction, commitment, role conflict intensity and role ambiguity.
