Computers for Business: Life After IBM PC: Margin-Cutting 8-Bit Micros

Article Abstract:

The introduction of the 16-bit IBM PC may help stem the proliferation of diverse and incompatible hardware, languages, operating systems and other software. As buyers opt for the newer 16-bit machines, a beneficial fallout may be that 8-bit suppliers will cut prices. The IBM PC runs on its own plus CPM-86 operating systems and may induce more standardized and friendlier software. IBM documentation is superior to much that is on the market and will stir its competition to do better.
