Conditional information: when are pork belly cold storage reports informative?

Article Abstract:

The pork belly Cold Storage Reports (CSR) has seasonal impacts since agricultural commodities have highly seasonal production and consumption. There is a negative impact, for instance, in the months of April to June, with the coefficient of May higher than the coefficient of CSR's major variable. Seasonal impact for the months of February, March, August and December is found to be absent while the market cycle is not statistically significant. This finding shows consistency with the cold storage cycle for frozen pork bellies.

An analysis done shows that the live hog futures market receives new information with the release of USDA HPRs. Information arrival from frozen pork belly futures is also noted from HPRs.

The impact of proprietary - public information on pork futures

Article Abstract:

An experimental study shows that proprietary - public information, does not affect futures market of pork. Test findings suggest that private survey releases, such as K-R survey, on pork failed to elicit a market response as investors' confidence relied more on the release of government prepared information on the same topic. Also, the credibility of the private firms in releasing public data played a vital role in eliciting a market response.
