Creating and managing a high-flying project team

Article Abstract:

Project managers should be creative in their strategies especially in handling team members that have varying skills, objectives and experiences while completing their projects. Among the suggested tips in managing skilled individuals include team selection wherein each member is carefully selected because each has a key role to perform. Establishing a disciplined approach is also imperative wherein members are trained not only for their specific tasks but also in responding to emergencies.

The most important criterion in achieving a successful project is effective communication with all stakeholders. The ability of a project manager to communicate with both the management sponsors and the team is vital in project management. The essence of leadership and management is giving instructions and hearing instructions is fundamental to meeting and teaming. A project will only be completed accurately with the correct communication and carrying out of instructions.

Relationship building: a key "technical" skill

Article Abstract:

Successful project management requires not only technical expertise but also interpersonal skills. Although skills in communications, customer satisfaction, networking, enlightened staff management, profitability and staff motivation are vital in the marketplace, building interpersonal relationships is also needed. Anyone can claim possession of technical skills but effective use of people skills makes one better than the other.
