Delmed's Dilemma

Article Abstract:

Delmed stock has been trading near a midpoint price after losing six dollars from its high. The company had no earnings in 1983. Delmed's major source of revenue is its kidney dialysis business. They are primarily oriented to the home dialysis market. Since Medicare changed the payment rules, hospital care centers can make more money by buying dialysis machines and renting them to the patients. Delmed, a supplier of machines, is effectively cut out of the market. There is also a great deal of competition in Delmed's field of business which they must deal with. Recent stock analysis shows there has been heavy insider selling of the stock. The overall picture looks bleak for the company.

Looking a Little Peaked

Article Abstract:

An interview with stock market analyst Alan Shaw of Smith Barney, Harris Upham is presented. Shaw was one of the few analysts to accurately predict the great stock market rally of early 1983. In the latter half of 1983, however, Shaw thinks the market is due for a correction. Shaw believes that underlying technical indicators usually remain healthy during a slump, but underlying market indicators do not. Shaw and his colleagues are bearish on high-technology, forest products, and home building stocks, in spite of short-term rallies in these areas.
