Don't put your heads in the PW noose, US Coopers partner tells his colleagues

Article Abstract:

Gary Means, a senior Coopers & Lybrand partner in the US, has sent a message warning other partners to vote against the accounting firm's merger with Price Waterhouse. Coopers' 250 Australian partners are scheduled to vote Nov 25, 1997. Means is urging Coopers' board of partners not to blindly approve the deal, which he believes is a bad one.

Queensland roll-up leaves some loose ends

Article Abstract:

Accounting firm Mobile Accounting Professionals (MAP) in October 1998 sold 28% of its equity to New Zealand Sovereign, an insurance group, to anticipate across-the-board tax accounting services to be offered by most banks and tax accountants by 2004. Eighty percent of MAP's fees are generated from tax accounting. In 1998-99, MAP had $3 million in revenue. Sovereign, which wanted an investment and possible financial product distribution, had an after-tax profit of $NZ11.2 million in 1997-98.
