Drink up

Article Abstract:

Alcoholic beverages industry is facing onslaught of private label products, which threaten to replace the existing brands on supermarket shelves. Consequently prices of alcoholic beverages have gone down considerably making viability of many of these companies a suspect. Solution liess in consolidation. If Foster's-Southcorp merge to form one of the largest wine groups, they can become the ones who dictate terms to the supermarkets and revive the industry. So far, however, Southcorp has rejected Foster's merger offers, which could eventually be detrimental to both.
