End-games in international alliances

Article Abstract:

The reasons why joint ventures between companies based in different countries sometimes end include the alliance's failure to meet its goal, incompatible cultures and management style, failure to comply with the agreement and the accomplishment of the alliance's goal. Advices to top management in handling alliances include having adequate information regarding a potential partner, familiarization with the country and culture of the other partner and engendering a personal relationship with the partner.

Strategies for responsible restructuring

Several ways of enhancing restructuring activities to make them more responsible are discussed. An alternative way of restructuring, which centers on people as assets rather than treating them as financial liabilities, is advanced.
