Forecasting the effects of electric utility deregulation: a hypothetical scenario for New Jersey

Article Abstract:

A hypothetical case involving electric utility deregulation in the state of New Jersey shows that electricity industry deregulation results to several positive effects. Study shows that electric utility deregulation helps in lowering commercial and industrial electric rates as the number of players in the electricity industry increases and competition becomes more intense. A 10% cut in electric rates in New Jersey has resulted to a decline of 4.6% in total fuel costs and increased state exports. Output and gross regional product, state employment, as well as goods and services demand also increased as a result of electric utility deregulation.
