Free the Airways

Article Abstract:

Congress is now involved in trying to revise and deregulate communication laws. Deregulation of radio and television is being sought. Full decontrol has many sponsors, but critics are stalling passage of the legislation. Decontrol is regarded as overdue since the original laws were formed when the broadcast medias were first developed and became popular. Regulations do not achieve balanced, neutral coverage of the issues. Regulations also impose costs on those subjected to it. The communications industry discriminates between the print and the electronic media.
