Getting Even

Article Abstract:

Small businesses which are cited by state agencies for violations and brought into court often elect just to pay the fine rather than fight the case, since fighting could involve costly legal fees. But now many states have enacted equal access to justice statutes which allow small businesses to recover their court costs and legal fees from the state, if the business wins in court. Even though many states have these laws, and many more may enact them in the future, the problem is getting the word out to small businesses. Illinois, which has had this law on its book since 1977, has yet to see one business take advantage of it.

Old planes = bad planes?

Article Abstract:

The Commercial Aviation Safety Strategy Team, a government safety group, reports the domestic crash rate for newer Boeing 727s was higher than for older ones. The worldwide rate increases three to four times after 30,000 takeoff/landing cycles. This is attributed to high US training and maintenance standards.
