How ABC changes the post office

Article Abstract:

US Postal Service (USPS) successfully implemented a credit and debit card payment program in Apr 1995. The USPS first hired Coopers & Lybrand (C&L) to determine the feasibility of adopting such a program. C&L used activity-based costing to identify the costs associated with cash, check and credit/debit card processing activities and reported that the high costs of credit and debit card processing will be offset by increased transactions. The company then recommended a three-stage process for implementing a credit and debit card program which involved promoting the benefits of using credit and debit cards, marketing the program and then adopting credit/debit card processing technologies. The USPS has derived several benefits from the program including improved customer convenience and increased accuracy of card transactions.

Image processing: bright picture for the future

Article Abstract:

Companies can gain a competitive advantage by using image processing technology. Image processing technology can help companies reduce costs, improve customer service, and differentiate their products. The functions that imaging processing technology can perform include communication, output, information processing, information storage, systems management, indexing, and input. Companies that are considering the use of image processing technology should consider such factors as legal issues, the lack of standards, and the costs.
