How the Financial Marriages Are Doing

Article Abstract:

During 1981, the Prudential Insurance Company bought the Bache Group, and started a whole new game in the finance industry. Two subsequent deals ushered in a new era: American Express merged with Shearson Loeb Rhodes and Sears bought Dean, Whitter, Reynolds. Shearson is very pleased. Dean Whitter offered great securities investor protection corporation insurance which was handled by Allstate, Sears' insurance firm. Portfolio management has been improved by these large scale mergers and acquisitions, which are reviewed in detail.

Doing It Downtown

Article Abstract:

Cities have found many benefits in the revitalization of their downtowns for the purpose of developing a business community. Cities are offering low interest business loans, tax incentives and government grants for the purpose of restoring business districts in their downtown. The economic and social reasons for this move are examined. Several cities in Ohio: Springfield, Delaware and Rushville, are used as examples of successful revitalization programs.
