How to learn in R&D partnerships?

Article Abstract:

A sample of European high technology research and development firms were used to identify the set of determinants of organizational learning and result appropriation. Findings showed that a firm's internal organization and the level of trust between partners affect learning and result appropriation. However, the determinants varied according to the kind of outcome such as tangible knowledge, intangible knowledge, new products/processes and improved products/processes.

Mentoring and organisational learning in research and development

Article Abstract:

The article examines the interrelationship between a scientific leader's characteristics, the context created by a scientific leader, and ways in which dialogue fosters scientific breakthrough. Mentoring styles are identified and discussed relative to the learning process and the development and maintenance of learning teams.

Patent-based inventor profiles as a basis for human resource decisions in research and development

Article Abstract:

Multidimensional scaling and semantic patent analysis were used to develop a new inventor profiling method, which is applied to a mechanical engineering firm in Germany as an illustration. Implications for human resource management are discussed.
